AIEF was first envisioned by Irma Scavenius in 1976, intending to promote increased understanding between people of other countries and of the United States, sponsor workshops for foreign teachers, and to arrange educational meetings between foreign and American students.
To meet the foundation’s exempt purpose, research and educational grants and scholarships are given biannually. In keeping with Mrs. Scavenius’ wishes, her residence is now affordable housing for international students attending university in Anchorage.
